Derek McCammon - Rules for Success

The Last Season.  Since the terrorist attack on September 11th in America, most Christians are claiming that we are in the Last Days.  However students of scripture should pause and ask “which last days are we in?”  There are several “Last Days” in scripture and it’s important to understand which one you’re talking about.  It’s true that the things that have been happening over the last 50 years make us think it’s the last “season”.  The last days that Paul identifies in 2 Tim 3:1-2 are those that conclude this dispensation and the Day of Man.  The Last Days that are discussed in the Old Testament begin with the return of Elijah.  Paul does discuss attributes of the latter times (2 Tim 4:10) which precede the last days and consist of men who are immoral and religious. These are people who practice psychology and are filled with love for themselves.  The lesson on 12-01-2002 reviews the differences between the multiple “last days” in scripture.  It also covers the attributes of the people that are identified in the latter times.      Click here to listen now.

Make Full Proof of Thy Ministry.  The last letter Paul wrote was 2 Timothy for soon after he was beheaded according to church history.  In the end, Paul declares he fought a good fight, and kept the faith, hence thre was a crown of righteousness that Paul would receive in the heavenly kingdom.  Prior to the close of 2 Timothy , Paul warns of those who will “not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”  Consequntly, Paul charges Timothy to make full proof of his ministry.  What did that entail? Paul lists 5 things for Timothy in 2 Tim 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season , out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”  He also gives 3 more actions in 2 Tim 4:5 ”But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist...”Do you make full proof of the ministry that has been given to you?  The lesson on 12-08-2002 asks this question and encourages you to do like Timothy.      Click here to listen now.

The Game of Life.  The nature of man is to deny his own mortality.  Each one of us lives each day like there will be a tomorrow.  Yet, in a moment, this can change and ones own mortality becomes apparent.  The lesson on 12-15-2003 includes the testimony of William Champion and how he suffered a stroke at the age of 39.  The lesson encourages you to learn about the game of life.  This “game” is the real destiny of our own souls for all eternity.  Most people who haven’t accepted Christ as their Savior are still playing the game of life by their rules.  Unfortunately for them, the rules of sin are in force whether they know it or not.  The only way to win the game of life is to play using Christs “rules”.  In Christ, the problem of sin and seperation from God is solved.  When you play a game, the only way to properly do so is by the rules.  If you know the rules, you will fare much better.  Further,  as you play the game over time, you become more experienced.  As Christians, the instruction manual for playing life is the bible and witnessing for Christ is playing to win.  Do you have eternal life?  I Jn 5:11-13 tells us “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”      Click here to listen now.

Do You Believe in Christmas?  What is Christmas and what does it mean to you?  For those of us who are Christians, it means more than the lights, the shopping, or wrapped presents under the tree.  If it were, then the spirit of man really yearns for something more than that and is so empty.

Al the answers the world has to give will never satisfy the yearning heart.  There is only one answer that will, and that is Christ.  Christians know that every day is Christmas because God has given us the gift of His dear Son.  No matter what problems you are suffering this time of year, Christ is the answer.  He is the reason to celebrate yet we get so distracted and caught up in the materialism.  The birth of God’s Son was not just some unfulfilled promise.  The birth of Christ was the culmination of events that have been promised and pre-ordained from before the foundation of the world and became flesh in the fulness of time as Galatians 4:4 (KJV) says ”But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman...”  The lesson on 12-22-2002 takes you on a journey through scripture to trace the promise of Christ back to the beginning of time... even before time.  The lesson covers the prophetical phenomenon of that the birth of Christ fulfilled.      Click here to listen now.

The Rules for Success.  Most of us like to have success.  We often make goals in the new year to achieve new levels of prosperity and success.  Yet if we if spend our energy trying to find the secret of worldly success, we miss what God has prepared in His rules for success.  Psalms 1 (KJV) begins with ”Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” God blesses those who follow His word.  The christian delights in the law of the Lord.  This is different than under the law.  God is in the blessing business which he demonstrated with Abraham, Noah, and others.  However, these blessings are not as the world defines them.  The flesh and the world are never satisfied.  The Christian receives his or her blessing from applying the word of God in their lives.  Yet the world has it’s own formula for success.  What kind of success do you want ?  The lesson on 12-29-2002 defines the rules for christian success.      Click here to listen now.
