Continuing in 1 Timothy, this lesson starts in chapter 4 which was given on March 4, 2007. Paul
reminds Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:6
”If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto
thou hast attained.”. The encouragement is to practice Godliness which we do by putting on the mind of
Christ (Philippians 2:5). God’s spirit communicates with our spirit as we learn in 1 Corinthians 2:10 “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for
the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” and verse 11-12 says that we have received the spirit of God “... that we might know the
things that are freely given to us of God.” Remember, God has finished the word of God in the revelation of the Mystery (Colossians 1:25-26) so His
spirit will not say anything beyond the confines of scripture. Anything you think God is revealing to you has to be proven out by scripture for we are
requested to test the spirits (1 John 4:1). An example of this is to try and apply worldly truths to your spiritual walk (like the “Think and Grow Rich”
crowds or the philosophy of a positive mental attitude). Now, starting in verse one Paul tells Timothy of the “latter times”. Keep in mind that there are
two latter times, one for the dispensation belonging to the Israel, and the other one belonging to the dispensation of the Mystery (which involves the
church which is the body of Christ). The characterization of the last days (latter times) for our dispensation is described in 2 Timothy 3:1-7; and 4:3-4.
We see a lot of these attributes in the world today. Back in 1 Timothy 4:1 Paul tells of some turning away from the faith.
It’s important to determine what you have your faith in... is it in Christ or something else? The individuals in verse one had
faith but they have since turned away by giving heed to the doctrines of demons. It’s a spiritual warfare! (Ephesians 6:10
-12). The end of the lesson talks about those believers whose conscience has been seared with a hot iron. Click here to listen now. You may also want to review all of the lessons in the Timothy study.
The Covenants - The lesson on March 11, 2007 brings out one from the archives with Pastor Clifford
McLain on an audio series he gave regarding the Covenants in scripture. This lesson is the first of the series and is an introduction that you won’t want to miss. The Covenant audio series was given in 1986
near his retirement as founding pastor of Northside Bible Church. This audio series is one that covers the
promises made by God throughout the ages as revealed in scripture. A good compliment to these audio lessons are the articles on Covenants as well as the large dispenational chart found in the Charts section.
Be sure and continue the audio series on The Covenants to you may understand which ones apply to you
for today. Is the New Covenant addressed to you? You might be surprised to find out! Click here to listen now. Be sure and listen to the other lessons as well.
The L.U.C.K. of Christ. Maewyn Succat had Good News… and it has nothing to do with good luck.
Who is Maewyn Succat? Well you might know him as Saint Patrick. On March 17, each year many people
celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by wearing green clothes, drinking green beer, participating in parades, dyeing rivers green, and thanking the luck of the Irish. Who is Saint Patrick and why is there a holiday to honor
him? What about the Luck of the Irish? Well, the word “luck” does not occur anywhere in
scripture. This is evidence that nowhere in the Bible does it give place to “luck”. “LUCK” is an
acronym that stands for some truths from scripture… as opposed to placing your hope in a force
that brings good fortune or adversity. The lesson on March 18, 2007 celebrates the good news that St. Patrick was spreading throughout Ireland. Click here to listen now. Be sure and download the handout as well!
Christ’s Prayer in the Garden. The lesson on March 25, 2007 was given by Leland Maples of the
LOOPS Ministry and the lesson covers Matthew 26:36 “Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place
called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.” He took three individuals with him as we see in verse 37 “And he took with him Peter and the two sons of
Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.” Jesus was saying a prayer to his father. What was he praying? We find out by reading Matthew 26:38-45 “Then saith he unto them, My
soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass
from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth
them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray,
that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time,
and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came
and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time,
saying the same words. Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold,
the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.” . One thing we as christians should be
able to do is pray but God tells us that even then the Holy Spirit prays for us because we don’t know what we should pray for (Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:
but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”) We often say today that there
are four possible responses to prayer: “Yes”, “ No”, “Later”, and “You’ve got to be kidding!” Paul tells us to pray without
ceasing. He didn’t promise that they would be answered but instead we would receive the peace of God (Philippians 4:6-7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made
known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”) Jesus prayed three times that if could not drink from the cup. What is this cup? Psalms 75:8, Isaiah 51:17,
Jeremiah 25:15, and Revelation 14:9-10 tell us that the cup is the wrath of God! Jesus was praying if there is any other
way to save man, please let it be thy will. Jesus prayed the same prayer three times and he knew the answer would be “no”. We find in 2 Corinthians 5:21”For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him.” Click here to listen now.
