Mother’s Day

Happy Mother's Day!Mother’s Day.  The lesson on May 13, 2007 celebrates Mother’s Day with a lesson on Genesis 4:1 -7 with the first children who were born and the first to celebrate having a mom.  Genesis 4:1-4 “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:”  Derek shares his own experience with his mom who passed away this year.  He expressed his concern that she was not saved but he knows that it’s not his job to judge if she was saved but it is the Lords.  We don’t always have the ideal situation in families but God can heal a broken heart.  Eve must have had a broken heart because one son killed the other.  Cain was the one who committed murder and was then cursed and banished because of what he did.  This must have weighed heavy on Eve’s heart.  It started in Genesis 3:16 with the sentence passed on to Eve by God when she was tricked by the wiles of the devil “Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.”   The woman started with sorrow by giving birth to Cain.  Cain killed his brother Abel because he was an evil man as explained in I John 3:11-12 “For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.”  A parent is supposed to raise up a child in the way he sould go... Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”   The lesson that God wants mother’s to teach their children is that faith, hope, and love is found in God. The lesson ends by reading a poem entitled “A Mother’s Heart” by Jennifer Jones   Click here to listen now.

Mother’s Day - God promised a saviour to mankind through the seed of woman when Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden.  Adam called her Eve because she was the mother of all living (Genesis 3:20).  It took several years from that point in time to deliver the baby Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.  Mother’s play a very important role in the family unit.  As demonstrated with Timothy, when the Apostle Paul was commenting on his faith in 2 Timothy 1:5 (KJV) “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.”  Timothy’s mother and grandmother were of great influence in his life.  The lesson on May 14, 2006 provides us with a history of Mother’s Day and provides some earthly wisdom that our Mother’s may have passed on to us as children.  It also tells of a fictional discussion between an Angel and God during the time of creation when He was taking so long with the specifications of a Mother.  It ends with a review of Mother’s in the bible with scriptures that tell of their importance.  This lesson honors the women in our lives that are Mothers and wishes them a happy Mother’s Day.  There was a handout for this lesson as well.   mp3_logo_old2  Click here to listen now.

Here is a lesson that celebrates Mother’s Day in America.  Being a Mom  is a special calling and they are often a source of comfort and encouragement.    From the beginning in Genesis, the man and woman were to cleave to each other and become one flesh.  The wife then was given another critcal role with motherhood.  It’s the mother that establishes the home and we learn from the scriptures that she is a crown to her husband and their household.  Click here to listen to the lesson honoring Mother’s.

“Every wise woman builds her house.”  We learn so much from mothers.  Someone once said that they learned religion from their mom when she said “You better pray that this comes out of the carpet!”  The wise mother knows that Betty Crocker is a cookbook for the kitchen but the bible is the cookbook for the soul.  A child first receives wisdom from their parents.  As Proverbs 4:1-3 (KJV) states “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father , and attend to know understanding.  For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.  For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.”  Worldly wisdom shifts from day to day yet the wisdom found in the bible is eternal.  Children will be a blessing if they listen to their mother and impart wisdom as they grow.  Proverbs  23:19-26 (KJV) says “Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.  Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.  Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.  Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.  The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.  Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice. My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.”      Click here to listen to the lesson for Mother’s Day.

Sarah’s Example .  The first woman mentioned in the great chapter of faith (Hebrews 11:11) is Abraham’s wife Sarah. The lesson on May 11, 2003, celebrates Mother’s Day with a lesson about Sarah, the mother of Israel.  There was something special about Sarah since she was identified by God in Hebrews 11:11 as a “heroine” of faith.  Not only do we learn about her faith , but this lesson teaches us all about the pursuit of Godliness, which applies to both men and women.  God does not expect us to live a perfect life, that’s why Christ died for our sins.  As we learn about Sarah, we find she  wasn’t perfect.  She was attractive both outwardly and inwardly but the inward beauty (of the soul) is what counts with God.  She was submissive to her husband, yet she was also impulsive and vindictive as demonstrated by her handling of Hagar and Ishmael.  Sarah’s example teaches mother’s four ways to be the BEST mom:  1) B = Bold in your witness to your children. Proverbs 1:8 tells us about mom’s responsibility of teaching kids the law of the Lord. 2) E = Encourage your children in their walk with the Lord. They will make mistakes but be an encouragement to teach them the right path. 3) S = Strength is in your weakness.  Trust in God when you are at your wits end and turn your troubles over to God.  4) T = Tenderness is how you handle your kids while you teach them the principles of Godliness. Be tender in your willfulness as you don’t let them have their way. The lesson on May 11, 2003 is one to celebrate Mother’s Day but also has application to anyone who wants to learn more about Godliness.      Click here to listen now or go to the audio lessons for the month.

New Survivor Game format for Mother’s Day.  Six married men will be dropped on an island with 1 car and 4 kids each, for 6 weeks. Each kid plays 2 sports and either takes music or dance classes. There is no access to fast food. Each man must take care of his 4 kids, keep his assigned house clean, correct all homework, complete science projects, cook, do laundry, etc. The men only have access to television when the kids are asleep and all chores are done. There is only one TV between them and there is no remote.  The men must shave their legs and wear makeup daily, which they must apply themselves, either while driving or while making four lunches. They must attend weekly PTA meetings; clean up after their sick children at 3:00 am; make an Indian hut model with six toothpicks, a tortilla and one marker; and get a 4-year-old to eat a serving of peas. The kids vote them off the island, based on performance. The last man wins only if he has enough energy to be intimate with his spouse at a moment's notice. If the last man does win, he can play the game over and over again for the next 18 - 25 years eventually earning the right to be called "Mother."      Click here to listen now.  Source: KLOVE.COM
